Intro Paragraph
Red Chrome Legionnaires turned a simple favor for the Forlorn Hope into a dangerous Night City trap. Marianne wanted the crew to stop Blank, an XBD dealer who kept sneaking into her bar. His extreme braindances and hardware had become a blight on the neighborhood. She did not order the crew to kill him. However, she made it clear that his safety was not part of the contract. The job sounded direct: find Blank, destroy his XBD operation, and make sure he never bothered the Forlorn Hope again.
Before the hunt could begin, the crew settled the problem left by Aisha’s copied engrams. Rogue offered more cash, but Sable offered debt relief and information about Thiago’s ruined cyberware deal. The group chose Sable and prioritized helping their fixer. Each member received 1,500 eddies, while Thiago’s remaining debt and interest fell sharply. More importantly, Sable delivered an old transaction record. The authorization carried a familiar name: Sabine Kessler, a senior Biotechnica figure connected to Project Halcyon and Defect’s past.
That discovery linked Thiago’s missing money and cyberware to Defect’s search for answers. Still, Marianne’s assignment demanded immediate attention. Normal searches produced nothing on Blank. ChoJo finally used his influence to send a loyal fan into Little China’s braindance scene. The fan identified Chrome Cross as Blank’s regular dealing spot. Defect urged the others to conduct reconnaissance instead of charging through another door. The crew then spent a full week monitoring the Forlorn Hope, yet Blank never appeared. They finally entered the damaged dive bar on Friday night. Red Chrome Legionnaires symbols covered the room. Blank waited in a protected booth with a bodyguard and gang members nearby. Suddenly, asking one dealer to leave looked much less simple.
Key Characters Introduced
- Sabine Kessler: This senior Biotechnica figure authorized the transaction behind Thiago’s disastrous deal, connecting his debt to Project Halcyon and Defect’s history.
- Blank’s Bodyguard: This imposing guard controlled access to Blank’s booth inside Chrome Cross and signaled that a quiet confrontation would require more than confidence.
Key Events
- The crew accepted Sable’s engram deal: The group chose major relief from Thiago’s debt, erased interest, immediate cash, and new information over Rogue’s larger but slower payout. Sable adjusted the payment so each crew member received 1,500 eddies.
- Sabine Kessler connected two mysteries: Sable’s old transaction record named Kessler as the person who approved the deal that left Thiago without the buyer, money, or cyberware. Her established connection to Project Halcyon revealed that Thiago and Defect were chasing parts of the same conspiracy.
- Marianne sent the crew after Blank: Blank had repeatedly sold XBDs inside or around the Forlorn Hope. Marianne wanted the hardware and dealing stopped, while Petra confirmed that normal security had failed to keep him away.
- ChoJo’s fan found Chrome Cross: Searches of criminal records, local boards, and street contacts failed. ChoJo then recruited a devoted fan, who returned the next morning with Blank’s main dealing location near the Forlorn Hope.
- The Red Chrome Legionnaires changed the mission: After watching the Forlorn Hope for a week, the crew finally entered Chrome Cross. The Red Chrome Legionnaires controlled the crowded bar while Blank sat behind a bodyguard and several allies, forcing the crew to reconsider any direct attack.
Standout Party Member Moments
- Bull: Bull questioned why the Aisha copies commanded so much money, helping establish that corporations wanted the mind-copying technology rather than Aisha herself. He later slept through the trip to Chrome Cross.
- Nova: Nova abandoned a costly fashion spree, bought armor-piercing ammunition through Thiago, and followed Winter into Chrome Cross when the reconnaissance moved inside.
- Iris: Iris searched for digital traces of Blank and monitored the Forlorn Hope’s security cameras during the week-long stakeout, although the dealer never appeared.
- Winter: Winter canvassed Little China with Thiago, volunteered for the first surveillance shift, and became the first crew member to walk into Chrome Cross.
- Defect: Defect rejected an impulsive assault, questioned Marianne about Blank’s habits, requested camera access, and pushed the crew toward surveillance before anyone started shooting.
- ChoJo: ChoJo succeeded where every normal search failed. He recruited one intensely loyal fan, sent him after Blank, and received the Chrome Cross location the following morning.
- Thiago: Thiago gained major relief from Sable, then learned that Sabine Kessler approved the transaction that ruined him. That clue joined his past directly to Defect’s Project Halcyon mystery.
Closing Statement
Red Chrome Legionnaires did not appear until the final moments, but their presence changed every assumption behind the job. Blank was not an isolated dealer hiding in an alley. He operated from a crowded gang hangout with a bodyguard and a controlled booth. The crew had already entered hostile territory before they understood whose territory it was. Defect’s call for reconnaissance suddenly looked less cautious and more like the only reason they were not walking into the room with weapons drawn.
The episode also opened a deeper mystery before sending everyone toward Chrome Cross. Sabine Kessler’s authorization tied Thiago’s failed transaction to Project Halcyon, Biotechnica, and Defect’s history. Sable provided only one thread, yet it was enough to merge two personal searches. Thiago’s missing buyer may not have simply vanished. The lost cyberware may also have served a purpose connected to Halcyon. As a result, the engram deal closed one dangerous chapter while exposing a conspiracy that could define Hope Reborn.
Now the crew must decide how to handle Blank without provoking the Red Chrome Legionnaires around him. They could watch his customers, approach under false pretenses, isolate him from his guards, or search for the XBD hardware first. None of those options will be easy inside a packed Friday-night bar. Blank’s bodyguard controls access to the booth, while customers move through under gang supervision. The crew also has no clear view of where he stores the XBD hardware. Moreover, one careless threat could turn a neighborhood favor into a fight against every gang member in the room. Hope Reborn begins with old debts shrinking, hidden connections surfacing, and the crew learning that the sensible plan still leads directly into trouble.
