Episode 13 – Forlorn Hope Explosion Turns Into a Deadly Rescue

Intro Paragraph

Forlorn Hope Explosion pushed Hope Reborn from cleanup duty into a disaster scene with no time to breathe. The crew had just finished tearing apart Blank’s XBD operation and returned to the Forlorn Hope expecting aftermath, payment, or at least a drink that did not involve structural collapse. Instead, they turned the corner and found smoke, injured regulars, and the bar burning hard enough to make Night City feel even less subtle than usual.

Grace Steel was already outside helping survivors when the crew arrived. She had stepped out while the bar was closing and watched the nightmare unfold from the sidewalk. Most patrons escaped, but Marianne, the Professor, Petra, Jennifer, and band members were still missing inside. That changed the whole session immediately. The Forlorn Hope Explosion was not just damage to a neighborhood hangout. It became a timed rescue with ten rounds before the building came down.

Inside, the session split into several emergencies at once. Fires spread across the bar. Smoke thickened every round. A woman was trapped on an electrified stage. Marianne was pinned behind the collapsed bar. Jennifer was locked inside the walk-in freezer. Petra was trapped in a burning storeroom. Meanwhile, John the Professor used a winch built into his wheelchair to pull rubble off Rory O’Reilly, because apparently even his chair came prepared for dramatic nonsense.

The crew saved several people, but not everyone. Petra warned that she smelled gas before the storeroom exploded and killed her. Then the survivors stumbled outside, wounded and coughing, only for a truck full of Red Chrome Legionnaires to arrive. The Forlorn Hope Explosion ended with the bar collapsing behind them and a fresh ambush charging in front of them. Night City really does hate a clean victory.

Key Characters Introduced

  • Grace Steel: The lead singer of the band was outside helping injured patrons after the Forlorn Hope Explosion when the crew arrived. Her update sent the team into the burning bar.
  • Jennifer: The Forlorn Hope cook was trapped inside the walk-in freezer until Thiago forced the door open. She immediately ran for safety, displaying excellent survival instincts and no interest in workplace loyalty.
  • Rory O’Reilly: This band member was trapped under office rubble while John the Professor and Marianne tried to pull her free.

Key Events

  • The Forlorn Hope exploded after Blank’s fall: The crew returned from destroying Blank’s XBD operation and found their home base burning. Injured survivors outside confirmed that several people were still trapped inside.
  • The rescue became a ten-round countdown: The building groaned, fires spread, and smoke filled the room while the crew split up to reach the bar, office, freezer, storeroom, and stage before collapse.
  • The stage trap forced a NET fight: A woman was stranded on an electrified stage. Iris jacked into the stage system, fought an imp in the architecture, and shut down the electricity so the victim could escape.
  • The crew saved several Forlorn Hope regulars: Marianne escaped the collapsed bar, Jennifer ran from the freezer, Rory was freed from the office, and the stage victim made it out before the building fell.
  • Petra died as the storeroom exploded: Petra warned that she smelled gas while trapped under rubble. The room blew before she could be freed, leaving Bull and Defect as the only ones who clearly saw what happened.

Standout Party Member Moments

  • Winter: Winter was not part of the main rescue action this session, which may be the safest tactical choice anyone made all night.
  • Thiago: Thiago found rebar in the wreckage, helped pry Marianne free, then forced open the walk-in freezer, so Jennifer could sprint out of danger.
  • ChoJo: ChoJo rushed in with a fire extinguisher for the audience, fought a growing blaze, threw the extinguisher at the fire when it stopped helping, and still made time to be dramatic.
  • Nova: Nova turned practical fire knowledge into a rescue plan by moving a heavy wooden table toward the electrified stage. She also stabilized ChoJo after the smoke nearly took him out.
  • Defect: Defect put out an early fire, searched for secondary devices, found Petra by sound, and tried to free her before the gas explosion forced him back.
  • Bull: Bull helped break Marianne free, checked on John and the office rescue, then ran toward Defect and Petra when the situation went bad. He saw Petra die and carried that hard truth outside.
  • Iris: Iris won the session’s most important technical fight. She defeated the imp in the stage system, shut down the electricity, rescued the trapped performer, and later downloaded Forlorn Hope camera footage before escaping.

Closing Statement

Forlorn Hope Explosion gave Hope Reborn one of its clearest pressure-cooker sessions so far. There was no long debate, no clean setup, and no perfect answer. The crew arrived in the middle of a crisis and had to decide who to save while the map itself tried to kill them. That made every choice feel sharp. A wrong route cost time. A missed roll let the fires grow. One extra round could mean another body left inside.

The session also worked because the disaster hit a familiar place. The Forlorn Hope was not just another bar on the map. It was where Marianne gave them work, where Petra kept watch, where Grace Steel played music, and where the crew expected to return after dealing with Blank. Seeing that place torn open changed the episode’s emotional weight. This was no longer a warehouse raid. This was the neighborhood bleeding.

Petra’s death gave the rescue its sting. The crew saved Jennifer, Rory, Marianne, John, and the woman on the stage, but Night City made sure success still came with a cost. Defect tried. Bull tried. The clock, the gas, and the fire won anyway. That kind of loss fits Cyberpunk RED perfectly: heroism matters, but it doesn’t grant immunity from consequences.

Then the ending made everything worse. The building collapsed, everyone coughed through smoke damage, and Nova patched ChoJo back together before the next threat arrived. A truck screeched into view, six Red Chrome Legionnaires jumped out, and Marianne told the crew to hold them off while the survivors ran for the parking lot. The Forlorn Hope Explosion was not the end of the attack. It was the opening move. Next session, the crew has to fight wounded, tired, and furious, which is exactly when Night City tends to show its teeth.
